John,
How about demanding the "tip" line work. It does not! You worked on the "Drug squad;" why have a tip line for community help if law enforcement can't maintain it. No Brainer.

Why are some individuals permitted to "carry on" with their "businesses," putting residents at risk of overdose?
Why are certain individuals protected?

Tax payers CAN and SHOULD demand more. You don't really think that EVERY county resident will buy your hyperbole.. This is an epidemic, it's too late for excuses. "Back peddling" has become an Olympic sport in Cecil County.

News Fash: It's not always "bad parenting." That wreckless statement/philosophy clearly demonstrates a lack of knowledge regarding substance abuse and all it encompasses. I hope you're retired, obviously this epidemic is out of your league.

MaryAnne: Whilst your anger is entirely understandable, it is not the place of government to become involved in the behavior of individuals unless they break the law.

Demanding government programs to overcome social issues is the very reason that many governments are finding it harder to budget without increasing taxes.

From my observations, (I spent some years in the drugs squad)it is the acceptance of drugs within elements of the population that is the cause of the problem, and this often stems from a lack of parenting, and consequentially, a lack of education.

Please do not demand more from your government than they can reasonably deliver.

I am just sick that these drug overdose deaths just get more and more. We have heard a lot of talk from our county officials. But I don't see them really doing anything about this crisis. Why didn't the county government come clean about this, up front? If they didn't know about it they wern't doing their jobs. And if the DID know, why didn't they say so in to the public before they had to answer questions when it was put in their face?

I have a lot of older friends-- grandparents-- who are now having to give up their peace of mind and their retirement pensions to take care of grandchildren because their kids/ the parents of the grandkids are drug addicts. Enough is enough.
