According to Commissioner Broomell, the rules have been changed to allow commissioner comments during the time when the public is commenting. which I assume is allowed during hearings as well. She did that to my wife when June spoke about county benefits for part time employees, and Commissioner Broomell had previously stated the rule change during, I believe, an official public session. To my knowledge, since I attend all working and official public sessions, no other commissioner has challenged that assumption. Thus it has become reality, whether we citizens like it or not.

It was a serious mistake to allow commissioners to engage in debate with dissenting citizens during public comment sessions. When Ms Broomell was a citizen making accusations against previous commissioners, they remained silent in the face of her public insults. But in addition to that procedural mistake, for which all commissioners share responsibility, Mr. Mullin commits an even more serious offense by allowing Ms Broomell to speak out of turn. There can be no respect for proceedings of government if threats of raw power and retributions are made against citizens. Evidently, Mr. Mullin has not learned the lesson of his defeat at the polls, and his expectation that he now needs police action against dissenting citizens evokes a bit of raw fear.
