Joe, you hit the nail right on the head. When you see what happened, even at a local level to the Bainbridge Project and how many substantive opportunities (including an AMAZING commercial / industrial / scientific campus for one contractor) got "poofed" due to inaction and in some cases EGO by those particular elected officials, it is no wonder that business goes elsewhere.

Thompson (I do not know nor have I met the man) was NOT in control of the many issues that were stated as problems; those are the shortcomings of the COUNTY that did not move with enough speed to create an atmosphere more amenable to business.

Vernon Thompson was our county "salesman" to pitch what we had to offer, and it's hard to offer potential contractors something "we ain't got."

Also, I'm really tired of hearing some folks whine and complain that we didn't / don't get contractors and business here in Cecil, while out of the other side of their mouth they whine and complain against having any "development." Well, you can't have it both ways; you gotta develop SOMETHING to get that business.

Mullin's no growth friends/political allies are responsible for the lack of businesses locating in Cecil County. Smigiel fought the pipeline planned to run up Route 40 from the Susquehanna to Elkton decades ago. Smigiel's 21st Century Club fought growth ages ago. Leaders and officers included Dunn, Broomell, Mullin, Yust (latest Dunn appointee to the Planning Commission). Mullin has been involved with the ARCA/CLUA groups.

Businesses could not wait fot the ARCA lawsuit on the Artesian sale to be resolved until planning where to locate. Smigiel sits on the Bainbridge Development Commission and has done nothing in that role.

The truth is that Vernon Thompson offended Smigiel and Pipkin by defying them and supporting special taxing districts.

BRAC related companies can locate closer, easier, and faster in Harford County. If a company does not need frequent physical access to APG they can locate in infrastructure-ready, business friendly Newark. If Commissioner Mullin wants Cecil County to remain backward he should say so and not blame Vernon Thompson for failures caused by his own deliberate sabotage. Elections have consequences. The 3 Amigos prove that point.

Has it ever entered Mullin's mind that maybe the contractors don't want to deal with the mentality (or lack thereof) of County Commissioners in Cecil?
