John, just to set the record straight: check the dates and you will see this moderator's appeal for 'on topic' comments was made a day after Jackie's comment. It is just the online ordering technicalities that my reply to you and 'Real GOP' was in the 'reply' queue, while Jackie's free-standing comment was not in the reply queue. We were not trying to deprive you of an opportunity to respond, or moving Jackie's comments ahead of yours.

Thank you very much for your participation in our dialogue.

I agree with you on the Smipkins. How do they keep getting elected? Seems to me they both have $$$ and are doing this for fun, for the most part.

The moderator asked readers to get back on track, but since allowing your comment directed at me, I will respond and be done.

Piner lost, period. I'm not aware that Cecil County has ever had a black commissioner, have they? As you listed, there are many factors that go into a candidates’ success ratio. Statistics back up the facts that certain factors support certain candidates. One factor is race, like it or not. Another is Dem or Rep baiting. So, stop downplaying one factor whilst beating the drum of another.

Enjoying the dialogue.

Folks, Cecil Times tries to encourage a full and open discussion, as long as commenters keep it clean and civil.

But we think this discussion of race and political candidates has gone on long enough and is off-topic from the issue at hand in this news article: the ouster of Vernon Thompson as economic development director.

So, dear readers, let's get back on track and address the issue of the ouster of Thompson and the performance of the County Commissioners in this matter. Thanks!
