Thanks, Mike. It was good to 'work the beat' with you in Elkton on this one. Too bad the Whig was AWOL.

As you know, it takes time and, dare we say it, experience as a reporter to do these stories. Not going to happen with a just-graduated student or intern just passing through the Whig on the way to something better. And it won't happen when the few remaining reporters are streched in five directions to fill the space between the print ads.

Onlne is the way to go, and we're working on it...

Thanks, Elaine for your comments. It takes time to do the kind of documentary research this article required, plus attending the commissioner's worksession on this project and the court proceedings. Unfortunately, the Whig has decided it does not want to invest the time and effort in these kinds of articles.

You raise a very good point, and you are right. "Senior" housing also provides apartments to "disabled" people, not just the elderly. In fact, this project has set aside at least 6 units for "disabled" people, state records show. They could be elderly disabled or younger disabled who need special features for mobility, etc.

There have been some problems around the country with younger mentally disabled people co-existing with seniors in these apartment projects.

I agree that the Cecil Times really gave us some useful information. Too bad we can't get that type of report from the Whig. I also was unaware that we(the taxpayers) are footing the bill for this project. I should have known, very similar to other projects in the county. This project seems to have a variety of issues that seem inconsistent for a developer with so many "awards".(Things that make you go hmmm.)On a personal note,I am not very pleased with the Ingerman group...biting the hand that feeds it...I better be careful, they may want to sue me for questioning their behavior. Also, will this truly be "senior housing" or are we being sold a bill of goods? Many of the so-called senior apartments take anyone who gets SSDI, not necessarily bad, but not actually seniors. What constitutes "senior" status? Okay, I am somewhat of a pessimist, or perhaps just curious. Again, thanks Cecil Times and Mike for trying to keep us informed.
