Interesting that the Republican Party leadership formed a circular firing squad and pushed a far-right contender in their primary to defeat an electable (general election) incumbent. It ws a reasonably safe seat until they headed right at a time when the district and the country was moving to the center. Gotta wonder about the political genius of these guys – same ones who gave us this wonderful economy.

Will, Good point. And for some voters that might very well be their motivation. But we think that if many voters felt strongly that there were no viable candidates for commissioner, they could have submitted a write-in vote, even if they chose to write “none of the above” so as to register their protest that the established political parties had not provided reasonable alternatives and substantive candidates. Just leaving the ballot line blank is the “easy way out.”

Maybe the people that didn’t vote for the local candidates felt there wasn’t anybody to chose from.
